Albany Entertainment Centre

Delivering a new Paradigm and renewed illumination to the architecturally renowned Albany Entertainment Centre.

Lux Imperium (formerly SimpleMotion Lighting) played a crucial role in delivering a substantial house lighting upgrade for the Albany Entertainment Centre (AEC), a contemporary performing arts venue located on the waterfront in Albany, Western Australia. Completed in January 2025, the project showcased our expertise in theatrical control systems integration.

Working directly with electrical contractor Castlehow Electrical Services, we delivered a comprehensive control system integration for AEC’s two performance spaces: the 618-seat Princess Royal Theatre and the 200 person-capacity Kalyenup Studio. The upgrade transformed the centre’s house lighting from incandescent to LED, featuring over 100 Anolis luminaires all with full RGBW colour-changing capability.

Our scope encompassed control system programming, commissioning, and staff training. We programmed two ETC Paradigm architectural control systems, one for each venue. Collaborating with AEC, we designed custom touchscreen interfaces for intuitive and flexible operation in each space. The systems allow operators to record custom house lighting presets with adjustable fade times, providing operational flexibility. Seamless control integration with production lighting consoles enables operators and visiting designers to incorporate the colour-changing auditorium lighting into their shows.

The result is a dynamic, energy-efficient installation that enhances both operational efficiency and creative possibilities for this award-winning regional arts centre.
